James BorettiWith over 30 years of experience, James has an extensive background in the field of Occupational Safety & Health. James is President of Boretti, Inc., a professional Safety, Health & Environmental firm providing a broad range of technical, sustainability, and business safety solutions. He has successfully consulted with an array of clients and industries, including healthcare, manufacturing, entertainment, construction, and agricultural environments. His efforts have resulted in measurable, improved operational efficiency and productivity, lowered insurance rates, reduced claims frequency, and OSHA compliance. James is a frequent speaker for clients and professional organizations such as the American Society of Safety Professionals (ASSP), and has taught courses for the University of California, Irvine, in ergonomics and Sustainability/CSR. James is well versed in ISO (International Organization for Standardization) and other nongovernmental voluntary and marketplace certifications for safety, environmental, and sustainable operations.

Josh Penner, CEO, Inquisio.AIJoshua Penner is the Mayor of Orting, WA, a board member at the Association of Washington Cities, a Trustee for the AWC Employee Benefits Trust, and co-founder of Inquisio, a firm dedicated to deploying technological solutions to the information access problems prevalent in municipal and county governments. Safety professionals are presented with a myriad of challenges when working to develop occupational safety and health (OSH) systems and improve safety performance. The challenge is understanding three key components of all organizations: business, culture and leadership. Understanding the organizational perspective of these key elements will help safety professionals plan and work in partnership with management teams in executing safety.
This course is designed to provide workshop attendees with an education on understanding business fundamentals, what a safety culture is, and leadership interactions so they can effectively identify opportunities to integrate safety within operations. The course will explore the fundamentals of business and how safety applies within, how safety culture is formed and how to influence it, and use safety leadership principles to both sell safety initiatives and drive positive safety change. Attendees will participate in numerous exercises designed to apply elements learned. The desired result is to achieve OSH and organizational success by understanding the benefits, components and practices surrounding these three key elements.

The following learning objectives are for the course:
➢ Identify the key foundational elements of businesses.
➢ Determine the safety culture within the organization,
